| Maester Aemon, by ~Sir-Heartsalot via deviantART |
That's right, I'm busting out on of my favorite artists from deviantART, Sir-Heartsalot, who has done more individual character illustrations (and more illustrations of obscure characters) than anyone else I have found yet. If you've read all the books I definitely recommend that you check out his gallery on deviantART because you'll doubtless get a kick out of it.
This is a really chock-full chapter. Sam starts out in the vaults looking up information for Jon on the Wights, and then finds out that he's being sent to Oldtown with Gilly and Aemon to become a Maester himself. And understandably, Jon is confused by Sam's hesitance because he had thought that Sam would be pleased by the news and instead Sam is absolutely flipped out and doesn't want to go, for a myriad of reasons.
Thankfully, Jon puts his foot down and tells Sam to stop calling himself "craven" since he's been through more than half the people on the planet, and even Aemon agrees with Jon that Samwell needs to be a Maester. The chapter ends with the trio and a small escort heading to Eastwatch, where they will take a ship down and Sam can decide whether Gilly comes with him to the Citadel or goes to present herself to Lord Tarly.
There's a lot to cover in this chapter, and there are also some announcements of events we're planning! First of all, my book Bite-Sized Erotica is free on Kindle for the next two days, so check it out and leave a review! Secondly, Brendan and I are going to do a liveblog of Bad Taste by Peter Jackson on March 14th, AND, I'm going to liveblog the premiere of Season 3 from a friend's house since Brendan isn't allowed to watch it yet. SO much happening!
I hope you guys have an awesome Monday, we will see you tomorrow!

The Tarly's serve the Tyrells, Sam's father is the biggest badass of the Reach, he is the only one there with a Valyrian sword. I think the problem with being a maester is that you're still active in society, after getting his chains Sam could be sent anywhere. By sending him to the wall Randyl made sure never to be troubled by his son again
ReplyDeleteRandyll is also the only man who ever beat Robert Baratheon in battle.
