Episode 224: A Feast For Crows, Chapter 1 (THE PROPHET)

Aeron Greyjoy, Damphair, by ~InTheArmsOfUndertow via deviantART

It's our first official AFFC chapter, and our first Damphair POV! So many new things to learn about, and so many strange questions yet to be answered.

We get to see one of the Drowned God's ceremonies for the first time, and learn how his followers become one with him (hint: it's not by taking a day cruise and going fishing). Damphair is clearly an important person on the island, both by virtue of being Balon's brother and for being a sort of High Priest.

He clearly is disturbed by the news that Euron has taken the Seastone Chair, although since Euron didn't actually spill any blood (he had the one man who dare to protest drowned in a cask of seawater) he technically hasn't done anything wrong. According to Aeron, the laws of the Greenlands shouldn't be followed here, so just because we would consider Asha the heir doesn't mean a damn thing. Euron is doing things in the classic "Kill My Way In" tradition, and Aeron decides to thwart him with a more civilized, but also ancient, tradition.

There will be a kingsmoot! How very exciting!

  1. Damphair is probably the most extreme POV character you guys have reached. I wonder if the character's own zealotry will affect Brendan's opinion on the events in the Iron Islamds over the course of the book?
