Episode 201: A Storm Of Swords, Chapter 60 (TYRION)

Widow's Wail, by feliciacano via deviantART

This image may have been more appropriate last chapter, when Joffrey actually received Widow's Wail from Tywin, but I just found it today, and can you believe that there are no illustrations of Joffrey's death!? What is up with that?

This chapter is SO LONG. So much happens. Tyrion starts out thinking about the implications of Joffrey possibly sending the assassin to kill Bran, and what it means for him now that he's made it so obvious that he knows. He goes to the wedding ceremony drunk and nauseous, and has to sit through a horrifically awkward and painful ride in a litter with Sansa. And then he has to go to the reception.

WELL THAT GOES WELL!

People who hate Tyrion more on reread, can you explain why? Even in ROT13? Because I DON'T GET IT. He just wants love, and isn't that what we all want? AND JOFFREY IS DEAD! But we can't even ENJOY it because it's so quickly followed by the accusal of Sansa and Tyrion of the murder. WHAT THE HELL, GRRM I HATE YOU SO MUCH YOU CAN'T EVEN LET ME ENJOY THE DEATH OF THE ONLY LANNISTER AGH.

  1. While I don't agree with it, I understand the hate that Tyrion gets. I don't want to go into spoilers so Brendan can read this as well, so I'll try to explain it the best way I can.

    First world problems.

People like to go on and on about how shitty his life is, he even goes on and one about it as well. It's not. He's rich, powerful, smart and above all else, a good person. He has one little problom (puns are fun) and he thinks he's a little vile monster. His self-loathing is horrible.

Add that to the fact that he is an asshole to everyone, he is a real fucking jerk.

But, we all like him because he's funny and full of wit, and because of that, we look past all of that. We've all been to high school, I'm sure everyone reading this as has a real bitch for a friend that everyone besides yourself hated. But they where still your friend and you looked past those because that person was good to you.

It's the same thing with Tyrion. There are people who can look past his charm and see how much of a real bastard he is and his wit and humor doesn't hide it for them.

Like I said, I don't really agree with them on that kind of level, but they have a fair point IMO.

One last note, people like to joke about this being the Purple Wedding. =D

  2. Tyrion is a bit despicable but then again so is everyone else except for maybe Eddard Stark/Jon Snow, and compared to the other members of his family he's practically a saint.

When I first read this chapter I thought he just choked on some pie and thought it was hilarious.

  3. Poor Tyrion....this whole chapter was terrible for him. Except for the moment of joy when Joffrey died. The fact that this wedding is the Purple Wedding is one of my favorite things.

I like Tyrion, and V fgvyy qvqa'g ungr uvz nsgre NQJQ yvxr n ybg bs crbcyr frrz gb. I think one of the problems people have is that Tyrion gets a lot of praise for acting like a decent human being. Like for not raping Sansa. But I don't follow too many fan sites to understand why he gets a lot of hate. Gubhtu V fhfcrpg n ybg bs vg unf gb qb jvgu uvf zheqre bs Funr.

Anyway, besides the pain and humiliation Tyrion goes through this chapter, I can't help but love it since Joffrey dies. Which probably makes me a bad person. What makes it worse is that I wish it had been slower and more painful. Oh well, you can't have everything!
