I can't help it, this illustration is fucking amazing. I mean, really, look at it! He's obviously gone to great pains to make every detail totally accurate, and I gotta respect that shit. Pun totally intended.
This chapter is JUICY. Daenerys makes the right choice for single combat with Strong Belwas, and her army is flying high on morale. She knows she has to strike soon but nobody knows a way in except Ben Plumm, who escaped through the sewers once. Daenerys can't bear to send anyone in there, though, so she decides to go for a nice relaxing horseback ride through the camp.
Well, we know how well that works out. Barristan Selmy reveals himself in his defense of Daenerys against the escaped Mero. Daenerys is at once thankful to him for saving her life and furious at him for lying, and also really angry at Jorah Mormont for not telling her that the Titan's Bastard was loose. Understandably.
When Barristan reveals to Daenerys that Jorah was spying for the Spider, she has a bit of a rude awakening, realizing there is nobody that she can truly trust. It's okay Daenerys, he was only going to betray you until he fell in love with you! It's no big deal, now that he wants to bone you you're totally safe from betrayal!
Psh, men, amirite? :-D

Haha, I'm glad you didn't spoil Barristan for Brendan in the end. Though I don't think it was a good plan on Jorah's part to out Barristan like that since Barristan obviously had dirt on him.
ReplyDeleteStrong Belwas is pretty badass in this chapter. I like that he lets his enemies cut him before killing them as a way to keep track of how many people he's killed.
I remember I was listening in a queue at the bus stop when Natasha made her little Barristan/Arstan slip and I swore out loud. Got some very funny looks I can tell you :)
ReplyDeleteGlad there were no lasting spoiler issues though; sounds like Brendans memory is even worse than mine. My sympathies sir, even if it has come in handy this time :)
