Congratulations, you just survived the Red Wedding. Without damage, hell no, but. . oh who the fuck am I kidding, I still have a scar on my middle knuckle on my right hand where I punched a wall after this chapter a few times and broke it.
ReplyDeleteThe spoiler I wrote last night said that these two chapters are the worst two hit combo of all time, this chapter fucking killed me.
Agree.
DeleteBrendan,
ReplyDeleteAfter the Red Wedding how would you say your opinion of A) the book and B) the series is? I agree the RW was tough. I almost don't want to see it on TV it's so bad. I was just interested in what you thought would happen going forward.
Also, this is unrelated, but I really liked your segment on crazy theories a while back and think it'd be cool to do that maybe once a week for levity's sake.
"Hey, want some of this apple? It's not forbidden by God or anything!"
ReplyDeleteI seriously cracked up at this.
Pull through Brendan, pull through. I seriously want to see how you feel about the Ramsay, Cersei and Gregor POV chapters in books four and five.
I'm sorry that I'm taking so much delight in your pain. To be fair it's the reason I try to get my friends to read the books. I found a "It gets better" on youtube I was going to share with you, but it's vaguely spoiler-y and not actually very encouraging, haha.
ReplyDeleteBut, it does get better? I think this was the most gutted I was in the books. Or maybe I just became more jaded after this chapter.
Now I'm curious. Could you share the "It gets better", somnium36? Having been duly warned, I don't think Brendan will watch it.
DeleteI wouldn't recommend it. It's not talking about it gets better or worse for the Starks or anything, they are bashing the quality of Feast and Dance, which is just unfair. That's a topic for a whole other time and shouldn't be on here, but they are just spoiled kids.
DeleteHere is the video -

I just watched it again and I guess it's not really a big trash talking of Feast/Dance, but they make snide remarks that I do not agree with. At all.
If you do want to see a really broken guy who just got hit with the Red Wedding, this is your video -
*The comments in the video will spoil events in the series, but not the video it's self. Watch at your own risk*

Guy is about to kill himself.
Yeah, that's the video I saw. I didn't really agree with them on their evaluation of AFFC or ADWD either, but I like the first 30 seconds or so when they realize Westeros isn't a happy place.
DeleteBut with the second video, I like his decision that the books would be better if the RW hadn't happened when he hasn't even finished ASOS yet. It's like the people who insisted everything would have still worked if Ned was on the Wall instead of dead. I'm also not sure why he doesn't like Dany at this point in this book, she's kickass right now. It's not like Quarth. He's just caught up on the Unsullied.
"If you do want to see a really broken guy who just got hit with the Red Wedding, this is your video"
DeleteAh yes, I'd seen that a while back. Still brings a schadenfreude fueled smile to my face.
I don't understand why, but those of us who've read these enjoy nothing more than inflicting the misery on unsuspecting friends and getting a voyeuristic kick ot of their inevitable outrage.
I once ate a pretty big habenero pepper with the seeds in. The first thing I did after the pain subsided was trick my friend into eating one.
DeleteSo I get it you guys. Just 'cause I don't "read' doesn't make me dumb!
This is the point I keep waiting for people to read. I have a couple of people at work who are all at different points in the book (because they're borrowing them from me) and one of them keeps asking for spoilers. It's driving her crazy that I won't tell her anything. And most of my family is only watching the show. I'm very anxious to see their reactions to this part. I also really want to see how they handle this on the show.
ReplyDeleteWe already have some details what's going to happen with the show for the entire event.

If you need me to tell you which episode it will be, then you haven't been paying attention to the HBO series. =D
No offense, Brendo, but we were all kind of waiting for this reaction from you last episode, and it's almost a relief that you finally had it. You're supposed to feel as hopeless as you do right now. Although I'm not sure when you're supposed to stop feeling that way...
ReplyDeleteHey guys! I've been so busy with work lately that I got so far behind listening. Just out of curiosity, I clicked on your site today to see what's been going on, and I see I come back in time for a doozy. So sorry Brendan. But also hilarious. But also sad. It's like an emotion sandwich :)

Just catching up with the last 14 pods at work after being out of town, I didn't listen to the audiobook chapters for the last two like I normally do, because I don't like to reread them.
ReplyDeleteDo you think that the "Reynes of Castamere" playing not only pointed as the signal to attack but to the a puppetmaster of the whole event? Especially, after Tywin told Tyrion that some battles are won with quills and letters earlier in the book, and Tywin has sent singers to go play the "Reynes of Castamere" to anyone that defies him.
Keep on going Brendan, as a book it gets better. It's a well written story that's why chapters hurt, because only since we're invested in this story.
